As a photojournalist in the military for 20 years, I have been in countless high-pressure situations that required patience, calmness, and professionalism to capture the perfect shot. Now, as a family photographer in Memphis, I find that my military experience has prepared me well for the challenges of shooting family photography sessions.

Firstly, my military background has taught me to be adaptable and flexible in any situation. I have learned to quickly assess my surroundings, adjust to the lighting and composition, and make decisions on the fly. This skillset comes in handy during family photography sessions when dealing with unpredictable weather, spirited children, or difficult lighting conditions.

Moreover, my military experience has given me a deep understanding of the importance of preparation and planning. Before every family photography session, I make sure to have all my equipment ready, check the location, and get to know my clients' needs and preferences. I also communicate with my clients beforehand to ensure we are all on the same page, and everyone is prepared for the session.

In the military, I learned the value of teamwork and collaboration. I worked with a diverse range of people and had to find ways to communicate and collaborate effectively. This skill comes in handy during family photography sessions here in the Memphis area, where I work closely with diverse clients to ensure we capture the essence of their family and their unique personalities.

Finally, my military experience has taught me the importance of staying calm and focused under pressure. In high-stress situations, I learned to slow down, breathe, and approach the situation methodically. This skillset helps me remain patient and calm during family photography sessions, where I need to work with children, pets, and sometimes even uncooperative family members (I get it, not everyone like having their photo taken!)
